Dragon Symbols For Tattoos

It is no wonder that dragon tattoos are some of the most sought after tattoo styles in the world today. Many different cultures have used dragon symbols at some time throughout their history and many people have chosen to have one of these cultural designs tattooed on their body to represent something that is meaningful to them. There are a number of different reasons that may entice a person to obtain a tattoo featuring a dragon image and with a little bit of creativity, the dragon in the tattoo can be just as unique as the person that it adorns.

Cultures all over the world have dragon myths and lore somewhere in their history. European cultures had knights that went out to slay the fire breathing dragons that horded gold and ate maidens while oriental cultures had the wise dragons that could tell you the things that you needed to know to live a good life. Even some Middle Eastern cultures had dragons included in their tales, believed to be based on the huge lizards that inhabited the lands where they lived. Most of the origins of the dragon stories of the past remain unknown, but the popularity of the stories ensured that they were passed down from generation to generation.

The most common images of a dragon resemble some sort of reptilian creature with very lizard-like features dominating the image. Great care is taken with the more expensive tattoos to depict the individual scales that cover the body of the dragon and some of the dragon tattoo images feature the forked tongue that is common to reptilian creatures. In many cultures, the dragons possess the power of flight with strong wings resembling those of bats and can breathe fire to disperse their enemies or defeat them.

Each dragon tattoo means something different to the person that is wearing it and sometimes the general meaning of the tattoo can be discerned by the actual image. Dragons that are meant to symbolize strength will be large with large wings and a defiant expression on its face, possibly breathing fire. Dragons that are meant to symbolize wisdom will often have a small smile or look of reflection on their faces and are typically depicted as wizened to give the appearance of great age.

The dragon can be used as a symbol of good, evil, mischief, wisdom, adventure, or strength. The type of image that is chosen will depend on the personal preference of the person getting the tattoo and what they would like that tattoo to represent in their eyes. A dragon tattoo can be of any color imaginable, with many men choosing tattoo designs that are red or green and many women choosing tattoo designs that are purple, blue, or pink hued. The colors are just as important to the design of the dragon tattoo as the body image and the facial expression and choosing your own combination of these items will give you a dragon tattoo design that is as unique as you are.
