Tattoo Removal - Should You Do ItThe current crop of young adults and individuals just entering middle age just may hold the record for most inked generation due to the millions of tattoos that are adorning their bodies. No longer just the toughness symbol of a sailor or a ex-convict, tattoos now adorn a good percentage of the population, including grandmothers, lawyers, doctors, and business owners. Many of these individuals choose to keep their tattoos hidden when they are going about their regular life, especially if they work in a professional environment, but some individuals have chosen to go a step farther than hiding their tattoos. As the most tattooed generation ages, more individuals are opting for tattoo removal instead of just trying to keep the image covered when out in public. It may be because they are embarrassed that their youthful follies caused them to have a huge Mickey Mouse tattooed on their calf or because the giant heart tattoo with the name of the girl they broke up with 8 years ago is starting to creep out their fiancée. Whatever the reason for the removal, more people are choosing this option each year. Most of the old ways of removing a tattoo are no longer used except in special circumstances because of the pain and scarring associated with the original methods of tattoo removal. Techniques such as microdermabrasion and excision caused the individual a great deal of pain during the process and resulted in excessive scarring at the site of the tattoo. As tattoo removal techniques became more refined, it was determined that laser tattoo removal was the fastest and least painful way of permanently removing a tattoo. Laser tattoo removal uses tiny pulses of light to break up the ink of the tattoo beneath the surface of the skin, resulting in less overall pain during the procedure compared to previous methods of tattoo removal and less scarring in the long run. Some scarring should be expected after the procedure and, in some cases, the scarring experienced by the patient is significant, especially if the tattoo covered a large area of the body. The overall recovery time for a laser tattoo removal treatment is also less than with previously used tattoo removal treatments. There is another way for a person to remove, or at least lighten, a tattoo without using painful tattoo removal treatments. A tattoo removal cream has been recently released to the retail market with claims boasting that repeated use of the product will result in the disappearance of the tattoo. The cream needs to be applied repeatedly over a long period of time for the tattoo to begin to fade and should eventually disappear altogether, according to the claims for the product. Whatever the reason for having the tattoo removed, actually going through with the process is not a decision to be taken lightly. In addition to the pain and the length of time needed for the results that you want, the process can be quite expensive, often costing thousands of dollars for some of the larger tattoos. Once all of the pros and cons of tattoo removal have been weighed and decided upon, be sure to find a reputable facility to do your tattoo removal. |
